Product code: Payne Stewart Autographed Practice Round Pamphlet, 99th U.S. factory Open Championship
On a somewhat overcast Monday morning, June 14th, 1999, my friend and I made the drive from Raleigh, NC to Pinehurst, N.C. to watch the 1st practice round of the 1999 U.S. Open Championship. The lines at the gates were extremely factory long and we thought we were early at our 6:50 arrival time. Guess again…LOL We walked the holes and were luck enough to catch Paynes second shot into 18 and found a spot to the side of 18 green where Payne took time to autograph many people's items. He had a brief conversation with a couple of people that actually knew him and then came to me and shook my hand and signed the pamphlet we have up for sale. He was gracious with his time, looking people in the eye when conversing with us and was a true ambassador to the game of golf. Payne went on to win the Open Championship that year. Who knew that 4 months later he would be killed in a plane crash. I've had this pamphlet in my possession since that day. Three others signed as well, but no idea whom.
