This piece was made by a technique called Tablet Weaving (Card Weaving).
Tablet-woven bands are commonly found in Iron age graves and are presumed to be standard trim for garments among various peoples, including the Vikings.
This pattern is based on brocade found in the Viking town of Birka, on the island of Björkö in Sweden.
It can be used for trimming, as a wrap belt and a lot of other possibilities.
