ITEM DESCRIPTION
For sale is a beautiful and very large antique world map. This detailed French map shows the world in Mercator projection with Paris at the meridian. Both poles are yet mostly undiscovered, which is clearly visible at top and bottom. Ocean currents and shipping routes are also depicted on the map. The map is very large and detailed which guarantees a lot of viewing pleasure. Please zoom the pictures to see all details. The map is a steel engraving with hand-coloring. The wide margins make this lovely map very suitable for framing.

This antique map comes from the beautiful French 'Atlas Universel, Physique, Historique et Politique' by the famous geographer H. Dufour, published in Paris. The very large maps from this elephant folio atlas are detailed steel engravings with hand coloring. Item is published in the year 1880 (circa, exact publication year is unknown) and is a true antique. It measures 60 x 82 cm or 24 x 32 inches. Antique maps this size are rare. Condition of the map is good (= the map has some small signs of age/wear - the paper has brown foxing spots from age - in good overall condition). Issued with a centerfold. Reverse is blank.
