OOAK Vintage 1970s Hong Kong China Strand Of Soft Pink & White Boho Beach Highly Polished Angel Skin Coral Chunky Cut Branch Graduated Beads $120.00

313 carats or 62.6 grams of highly polished natural color, vintage angel skin coral. The strand is over 19" in length and the beads range from 6mm or 1/4" to 22mm or 7/8" in length and from 2mm or 1/16" to 7mm or just over 1/4" thick. The ends of the branches are blunt cut with rounded edges. The drill holes range a bit in size and look to be .5mm or smaller. The color is mainly pink with some areas almost white and in some places a deeper pink with the range of colors well blended. There are occasional grooves and minor specks of color in the beads. Due to their organic nature, each bead is a unique, one of a kind piece. This strand has a nice weightiness to it and the the polish is silky to the touch giving them a lovely feel to the touch.
This strand is part of a lot of items I have purchased from a Manhattan jewelry boutique which has closed it's doors after multiple generations of being in business. The packaging they came in was all original from Hong Kong.
The white of the angel skin coral, suffused with pink, is regarded as particularly precious. Corals are the product of tiny living beings which settled in enormous colonies in the depths of warm seas long before our time. The polyps, surrounded by a fleshy skin, excrete a carbonic factory substance from which the corals grow like trees and branches.
Coral has been used for decorative purposes and held in high regard as a protective stone since time immemorial.
