This handbag is 100% handcrafted from start to finish by artisans in Bali, Indonesia.

Unlike other mass-produced, rattan-style bags, this bag is made of ata grass, a rainforest plant recognized for its durability and resistance to heat, water, and insects. The grass is woven to create a unique pattern and then dried in the sun to harden for several days.

After drying, the bag is smoked over a coconut husk fire which strengthens the grass and gives its distinctive glossy, golden finish. The toasty aroma from being toasted over the coconuts is the signature sign of a genuine factory Bali bag. The aroma is not permanent and will fade over time.

Finally, the leather strap and buckle are attached, and Balinese batik fabric is sewn to the interior. Overall, it takes the craftsman one to three months to make each bag.

Due to being handmade, no two bags are identical. Color, size, and batik pattern may vary slightly.

HOW TO CARE: Lightly wipe the bag with a soft damp cloth (no soap). If a piece of grass turns outward, trim it with nail clippers to avoid potential clothing snags.
