I'm in love with this rare plate! This is a simply and classically hand painted Majolica Plate made in France in the mid century 60's - 70's. It does show signs of crackling and crazing in the glaze, but no chips or cracks or damage through the plate. It is in very good vintage condition! The color is more of a creamy white color with the beautiful deep green leaves and the lavender and cobalt blue wash in the flower. This would be a lovely addition to any plate collection and certainly would draw attention because of its uniqueness! The back is marked Poteries Du Marais France with the remains of a sticker that appears to have said the same from the wording that is left on the sticker.
Potteries were housed in the Marais District in factory France during the regentrification of the area. The now fashionable Marais district in the 4th arrondissement, also known as SoMa (South Marais), is filled with hip boutiques, galleries, and Museums.
