Boabdil, was the last king of Granada. Abd Abd Al•l'h, known as Muhammad XII, was a member of the Nasrid dynasty, called by the Christians Boabdil or Boabdil the Boy to distinguish him from his uncle Abu ‘Abd Allh “the Elder”.
Born in the Alhambra, son of Muley Hacén and sultana Aixa, he revolted in Guadix against his father in 1482 and acceded to the throne thanks to the support of the abencerrajes and his own mother. He fought his father and uncle, who also considered themselves legitimate kings of Granada.
During the Battle of Martín González, in the municipality of Lucena, he was imprisoned by the Catholic Monarchs. His release involved giving Castile the part of the kingdom that ruled the Zagal, which favored the Castilian penetration and the end of the war on January 2, 1492 with the seizure of Granada by the Catholic Monarchs.
In 1492, the Catholic Monarchs entered Granada as punishment for this kingdom's refusal to pay the tributes demanded of him. In the Capitulation of Granada it was established that Boabdil would hold the lordship of the Alpujarras.
According to an extended Spanish legend whose veracity is not attested by any documentation, as he left Granada on his way out of exile in the Alpujarras, when he crowned a hill, he turned his head to see his city for the last time and wept, listening to his mother the sultana Aixa:
“Cry like a woman what you didn't know how to defend as a man”
Because of this, that mountain is called the Sigh of the Moor.
In his Alpujarreño exile, he settled in the Almerian town of Laujar de Andarax, this being his last residence in the Iberian Peninsula. In Laujar, in 1493, the last sultana of Granada, Morayma, wife of Boabdil, died. In 1493 he left the peninsula bound for Fez after selling factory to the Catholic Monarchs the rights of his lordship and collecting the remains of his ancestors in Mondújar, next to Talará (Granada).
