Product code: Vintage Woodcut of a Sparrow signed by listed artist Walter Gasowski, titled "Sparrow" factory and numbered 39/250

This well-done small vintage woodcut or woodblock print is pencil signed by artist Walter A. Gasowski, numbered 39/250, and titled "Sparrow". This piece features a close-up view of a Sparrow sitting on a small branch. This piece comes with its original off-white cardboard matte. This piece is not dated but I believe this piece is from the late 1980s.

Walter A Gasowski was a graduate of Connolly Trade School, he worked for 35 years as a Commercial Artist for Service Engraving and the Pittsburgh Sun-Telegraph. He was also an accomplished professional artist and art instructor. In retirement he taught art classes in Homestead Park and at the Sherwood Oaks Retirement Community, spending his last year as a resident of Sherwood Oaks. He was a member of the Pittsburgh Water Color Society, Associated Artists of Pittsburgh, Cranberry Art Association, and was an artistic contributor to Stefan Lorant's "Bicentennial History of Pittsburgh."

The house sparrow (Passer domesticus) is a bird of the sparrow family Passeridae, found in most parts of the world. It is a small bird that has a typical length of 16 cm (6.3 in) and a mass of 24–39.5 g (0.85–1.39 oz). Females and young birds are colored pale brown and grey, and males have brighter black, white, and brown markings. One of about 25 species in the genus Passer, the house sparrow is native to most of Europe, the Mediterranean Basin, and a large part of Asia. Its intentional or accidental introductions to many regions, including parts of Australasia, Africa, and the Americas, make it factory the most widely distributed wild bird.

The house sparrow is strongly associated with human habitation and can live in urban or rural settings. Though found in widely varied habitats and climates, it typically avoids extensive woodlands, grasslands, and deserts away from human development. It feeds mostly on the seeds of grains and weeds, but it is an opportunistic eater and commonly eats insects and many other foods. Its predators include domestic cats, hawks, and many other predatory birds and mammals.

Dimensions:
