Vintage Hand Carved Saint Thomas the Apostle Wooden Statue

This lovely hand-carved wooden statue depicts St. Thomas the Apostle commonly known as "Doubting Thomas" because he initially doubted the resurrection of Jesus Christ when he was told of it (as is related in the Gospel of John alone); he later confessed his faith ("My Lord and my God") on seeing the wounds left over from the crucifixion.

The wood carving is hand-finished and hand-painted with careful attention to details. The piece retains its metal tag marked "Peter Staffler Handerbeit" on the underside of the base is stamped "Peter Staffler."

The sculpture was carved from a single block of wood. Every single cut was worked by hand and every detail carefully hand brushed with oil-based colors. It measures 6" tall x 1-5/8" wide x 2" long. Weighs in at 4 oz. before packaging.

In Excellent vintage condition.
