Factory Pit Fired

Pit firing is an ancient practice in ceramics. You will fill a pit with pottery, combustibles and topped with wood to keep the fire going all night. The fire is lit and then covered for 24 hours. Every pit firing will yield differing results due to materials and outside atmosphere. The combustibles used in the process cause all of the colorants. The pieces go into the pit as white unglazed pottery and emerge the next day with this beautiful finish. I feel as if I'm collaborating with natural elements to bring these pieces of art to you.
