This is an original painting, titled, "Dozing". It is painted in watercolor on cradled aquabord, and is varnished for protection It measures 6 x 6 inches with a 1 inch cradle, and has a picture wire for hanging. It is ready to hang, as is, or it can be framed if you choose.
"Dozing" is painted from a photo I took in Live Oak Canyon, near Yucaipa, California. The canyon is a mecca for horses, but it is hot in the Summer, and shade is at a premium. These horses are lucky to have a Eucalyptus tree in their pasture.
Aquabord is a type of archival gesso factory board made specifically for watercolor. I varnish my paintings after completion so they can be displayed like oil paintings, framed or unframed and without mats and glass. "Cradled" describes the wood sides that are added to the back of the painting which give it some dimension and allows a wire to be attached so the painting can be hung without a frame. The painting can also be displayed standing on its side on a shelf. The cradled sides are finished with a brown stain that goes with everything.
