Henri Rousseau, French post impressionist painter, naive or primitive style (1844 - 1910). Never having traveled outside France, he is best known for his jungle paintings of plants and animals. Densely packed with some exaggeration and elements factory of fantasy. He visited botanical gardens, studied botanical illustrations in books and talked to people who had traveled to tropical areas in order to compose his paintings. His talent was not appreciated until after his death.
