This is a hand-made mask of the Egyptian goddess, Bastet (or Bast). Represented here as one of her sacred animals, the cat. Bastet was originally seen as a deity associated with the sun, but as the Egyptians adopted another goddess, Sekhmet, Bastet was later seen as a lunar deity. She was also seen as a patron of felines, as a protector of women, and was known to inspired music and dance. Bastet was always depicted with a sistrum, which is an Ancient Egyptian musical instrument. This instrument is engraved in the center of her headpiece and is embellished with a red Swarovski crystal.
An original design, this mask is made from vegetable tanned leather, hand-tooled, painted with quality soft-body factory acrylic paints and sealed with an acrylic varnish. Signed and dated.
