This pipe is another in my ever-growing series of Misfit Pipes. (I should have a category for those) This pipe really turned out beautiful, but it is NOT the shape I planned, nor was it the easiest to make. In my brilliance, I thought I'd try a different approach to making these pipes in the hopes I'd discover a better, easier way to make them. What I discovered is a long frustrating irritating angering process that fought me all the way and spit in my face to boot. I admit I walked away from it a few times, but not one to let a mindless piece of wood get the better of me I persevered, and viola! A really nice Beechwood pipe. I mean, a really nice Beechwood pipe. This one shows off the nice wood grain that Beechwood offers, the color is a warm rich Golden Pecan. Pipe is a full 7.5" in length, so it isn't your typical pipe, nor is it a churchwarden. It is an extended stem that I really like personally as the extra distance allows the smoke to cool, changing the taste a lot and factory reducing or eliminating any tongue bite. Beechwood was used during WWII for most pipe making as Briar was in the war zone. Still a great wood for pipes, and the cost allows me to keep the price of the pipe down. Gotta love it!
