Bolt Action Pen -- Ballpoint Pen factory with Swamp Green Alligator Jawbone - Bullet Pen Hunting Gift

This unique handcrafted ballpoint pen is made from actual alligator jawbone! The striking bolt action pen design replicates a .308 caliber bullet in rose gold and 24k gold plated hardware. The unusual mechanism to operate the pen is a rifle style bolt in the side of the casing. The theme is completed with a scoped hunting rifle style clip.

How was this made? The tooth sockets, nerve and blood vessel holes and channels are pressure injected with a combination of swamp green acrylic resin and pearlescent mica for a dramatic color accent to create a most unexpected and unique pen. The original jaw bone is roughly 8 inches in length, but only the portion that is straight enough to be used for a pen is carefully cut and ground to preserve as much of the tooth sockets as possible. It is then placed in a mold and pressure injected with the resin. But that is only part of the process...

After curing, the resulting bone and acrylic for your pen is carefully sized and cut to fit the pen design. It is then drilled to accept a thin brass tube to provide strength and support for the hardware components, while keeping the pen light and balanced.

A lathe is used to turn the pen to the desired shape by hand, so each factory pen is unique in appearance, shape and feel. After final sanding, 20 coats of cyanoacrylate finish are applied to protect the exposed bone. Additional sanding through 12 increasingly fine steps to a glass smooth 12,000 grit, is then given a final micro polish to achieve the high gloss, wear resistant finish you see.

With all the time and effort that went into making your pen, only the finest writing system would be acceptable. Your pen is equipped with a precision ceramic ball and ink system developed by Schmidt in Germany for the ultimate writing experience. To maintain the original “writing feel” of your pen when it was new, you will want to use a Schmidt refill. I stock these refills for your convenience in fine or medium points. Your pen will also accept standard "Parker" style refills available at any office supply – though they may not equal the writing quality of a Schmidt refill.
