Wonderful Early Redware Storage and Display Jar. True 19th Century Redware. This is early made with dark red clay, overall simple design with lightly lipped top opening and base, then finished with a typical for early redware Russet ocre color glaze inside and out. This jar was most likely originally used for storage of some sort and now it can do the same or be used for another purpose.. flower vase, paintbrush holder, utensils, pens and pencils, dried greenery etc. many ideas. Personally I like it best as a stand-alone piece of American Redware Pottery. This is perfect size too it measures 5 1/2" tall x 4" dia. top opening with a 3 1/4" dia. base. The condition is as shown with an old chip on the base and a tight crack on one side.. this is old and does show some wear on the entire piece.. use character if you will.
