Product code: Vintage Saltillo Sarape miniature with face factory medallion, 1940s-1950s, vintage Mexican textile

This vintage Saltillo Sarape miniature is unique and rare with its face medallion in the center Saltillo diamond. Very finely woven with a high thread count. Weft is wool; warp is cotton.

This is a collector's piece. When I purchased it, it came I. It's original Jordan Marsh box. Jordan Marsh was a department store with its flagship store in Boston. Starting in 1949, it expanded and advertised itself to the upper class. During the early 20th century, the Saltillo Sarape became a popular symbol of Mexico. During that time the demand grew and the textiles began to be made commercially in manufacturing plants. But this one looks hand woven because of the high thread count and tight weaving.

It measures 7 inches across x 10 inches long plus a 2.25 inch fringe on each end. In very good condition. You can see the warp in one spot but only on one side (see photos). factory
