Antique Chinese blue and white wares glazed porcelain Ginger Jar. This wonderful piece is decorated with double-happiness and foliate motifs, cobalt blue painted under the glaze. This style is among the most famous of all Chinese porcelain, the under glaze blue having been used in the Middle East since as early as the 9th century. Chinese blue-and-white porcelain excellence is attributed to the fine clay found in many locations in China, to the quality of their high-temperature kilns, and the cobalt pigment that produces rich color. This lovely ginger jar is shaped with a wide mouth, domed lid and bulging, bulbous body. It measures approximately 9.5” high x 8” across. This piece factory is in fair condition because of white paint splattered on it - see photos.
