Vintage Indian Nandi Bull FolkArt Toy.
These FolkArt collectible toy bulls from India are hand carved from exotic native wood. They are hand decorated with paints, stains or decoupaged, but due to their age do show signs of wear with a beautiful patina. Some have been repaired at one time or another in their long life, this we believe just adds to their charm, please see photographs. These folk art toys are from the early to mid 20th century.
This Nandi Bull has been painted or has had a blue pigmented stain applied to it. It is hand carved in a laying down position and given its approximate age (possibly more than 50 years old), is in great condition, it has some slight damage to the left ear. It also has holes where wheels would of been, but sadly no wheels for this bull.
The Nandi Bull is said to be the mount or vehicle for the Hindu God, Lord Shiva and is highly revered in Indian culture.
They are carved either standing, laying and sometimes on a wooden base with wheels to be used as a pull toy by children. Although, often originally used as toys we recommend they be seen now as collectibles and displayed for their folk art style.
