The painting is of ALTMUNSTER on the Traunsee in the famous Salzkammergut of Upper Austria.

The Gothic Parish Church is dominating the picture, built of stone with a 16th century altar. The little market town was first documented in the year 909! It is spring time in the foreground and in the back the mighty Traunstein mountain across the lake is bathed in warm light. The colors are muted and being gouache they are of flatness.

The painting is dated 1957 with a HANDWRITTEN NOTE glued to the back that reads (in fraktur) "Meinem lieben Bundesbruder Oskar Friede und seiner Liesl und Alice, Juli 1957, A. GRUBER" ( to my dear confederate brother Oskar Friede and his Liesl and Alice, July 1957, A. Gruber)

The plate measures 10 3/4" in diameter
