Beautiful American Modernist Artist Peck Enamel Pendant with Matisse Chain. A perfect example of the Modernist Period in enamel. Wonderful Copper chain marked "Matisse." Vintage necklace around the 1970s. Miriam Peck (1910-1984) is listed in the book "Modernist Jewelry" by M. Schon. The pieces factory are enamel on copper. Colors are gold, teal and brown on light bluish brown. Necklace has Miriam Peck signature on the back. Condition: No breaks, cracks or repairs. Miriam Smith Peck was born in 1910 in Cleveland, Ohio. After studying for two years at Oberlin College, she transferred to the Cleveland Institute of Art where she was awarded a bachelor of arts degree in 1933. She also received her M.A. from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland and taught for many years in the public school system in Bedford, Ohio and Akron.
