1800s Rare French Primitive Clay Bowl, factory Provincial Handmade Terracotta Dish Toulouse Region,lovely rustic handmade clay bowl, uniquie patina.

I am offering this gorgeous antique French clay shallow bowl or dish purchased from a private collection here in southern France and dating from the end of the 19th century.

These wonderful provincial ceramics are from the ancient Occitania region in the south with Toulouse being the major city.

The bowl was handmade from coils of clay and has a simple burnt orange glaze applied which is delightfully distressed. This has a slip like trailed decoration in a darker shade of orange too.

The terracotta clay has developed a dark timeworn patina so the back of the plate is as beautiful as the front. (This has been used over an open fire.)

A collector's piece, a unique bowl to display or use and enjoy.

Condition - Signs of age and use. Glaze is factory distressed and worn away but no real chips or cracks. Cleaning - wipe clean, do not leave submerged in water.
