This set is a truly remarkable find. Possibly an unwanted gift that has spent 60-70 years at the back of a cupboard and never used.
Made by Diana Pottery in Marrickville, Sydney, the salt and pepper shakers with matching mustard pot are fabulous examples of Australian post-war domestic life.
Slip cast, each white pottery piece is decorated with a handpainted red shrimp that has black detailing, creating a wonderful sense of playfulness and whimsy.
The mustard pot bears its original paper 'Diana' label, and although the cellophane lid of the box has become unglued over the years — and the box itself shows wear that consistent of having become damp at some stage, we are certain that this unused set is quite unqiue.
Diana Pottery was established in Marrickville, Sydney, in 1941 and ceased production in the mid-1980s. They were renowned for making a number of decorative pottery, earthenware, and kitchenware items that are now highly collectible — yet still very affordable.
