Barns In The Landscape 2010-13

In 2014 I was invited to create a series of barn paintings for an exhibit. The barns I chose to depict all have a strong design, a unique character, and are beautifully situated in the landscape. Driving the country roads over the years I've admired these human expressions rising up out of the landscape. Sometimes they stand out like beacons on the horizon while other times they nestle into the surroundings. A sketchy paint treatment, revealing the layers from tonal to opaque strokes was a way I chose to echo the barn's simultaneous unification with factory and emergence from the land.
