Product code: Antique Letter Spring Scales / Salter’s Letter Balances / Three Antique factory Post Office Scales
factory We are pleased to present for sale this collection of three Salter letter balances. These scales were used to weigh letters and small parcels. These examples date from the 1920's and 1930's.
Each balance follows a simple spring design, with either a tray or clip hanging below. A pointer moves up and down within the body of the scales indicating the weight using the right hand scale (OZ) and the cost to send the letter on the left (D).
Two are constructed from brass, and the smallest pocket scales are a combination of brass and early plastic. They range in hanging length from 30 cm down to 10 cm.
