OOAK Original Art Handsculpted Bendable factory doll, ‘Chimalma'

Chimalma's face is a one-of-a-kind creation, hand-sculpted by me. Her long skinny body is wrapped in scraps of fabric and black cotton thread. The rough fabric is painted in muted tones of blue, pink, grey, yellow. Fixed into her head with silver wire are three Aztec style beads. She also wears an Aztec bead with a flower symbol and a silver key around her neck. On the end of one arm is a black hard plastic rose with a decorative bronze filigree base. On the end of the other arm is a black woven ribbon flower.
All her limbs including her head are moveable so she is displayable in any position.

Chimalma, an Aztec name meaning shield bearer. The two black flowers she holds symbolise sheilds and are a small reference to the Aztec flower wars from the mid-1400s to early 1500s.
'From 1450 to 1454, the Aztecs had suffered from crop failure and severe drought; this led to famine and many deaths in the central Mexican highlands. Ixtlilxochitl reports that the flower war began "as a response" to the famine: "the priests . . . of Mexico [Tenochtitlan] said that the gods were angry at the empire, and that to placate them it was necessary to sacrifice many men, and that this had to be done regularly." Thus, Tenochtitlan (the Aztec capital), Texcoco, Tlaxcala, Cholula, and Huejotzingo agreed to engage in flower war for the purpose of obtaining human sacrifices for the gods.' -Wikepedia.
